The family moves to Columbus, Ohio where Josephine grows up and marries George. Nine children are born during this marriage, but the paternity of two is questionable. Secrets and lies become a way of life for Josephine.
Suzette, who has questionable paternity, searches for the truth about her father. Josephine deniesthat she is a result of an extramarital affair, but family and others around her tell her otherwise. Suzette is determined to break the "mama's baby, daddy's maybe" generational curse. Suzette has a son, Devon, who becomes a single father while in college.
